American pianist and teacher; b. Seattle, Nov. 22,1937. She studied at the Univ. of Wash. (B.A., 1960). After moving to Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1969, she became active as a teacher. She also performed widely, specializing in new music; composers who have written works for her include Daniel Lentz, Gary Eister, Michael John Fink, and Harold Budd; from the 1970s she was particularly active in performance ensembles organized by Lentz. She has recorded extensively as a keyboardist, vocalist, and conductor, both in ensembles and as a soloist; also has given numerous lecture-recitals. She has composed music for film, video, and dance, as well as collected pedagogical pieces for beginning piano students. She is married to Richard Dunlap.
